About Cell
The Gender Equity Cell of HVPS College of Law has been constituted in accordance with the guidelines of the University of Mumbai to promote gender equity, inclusiveness, dignity and mutual respect within the institution. The Cell strives to create a safe, secure and gender-sensitive academic environment by fostering awareness of constitutional values, human rights and gender justice among students and staff.
The Cell works in coordination with the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), NSS Unit and other institutional bodies to organize awareness programmes, seminars, workshops and outreach activities on issues relating to gender equality, women’s rights, prevention of sexual harassment, legal literacy and inclusive practices. Through these initiatives, the Cell seeks to cultivate a culture of equality, respect and shared responsibility within the campus community.
Aims and Objectives
The Gender Equity Cell aims to:
- To promote gender equality, equity and inclusiveness in all academic and co-curricular activities of the College.
- To create awareness regarding constitutional values, legal rights, gender justice and human dignity.
- To foster an environment of mutual respect, non-discrimination and equal opportunities for all genders.
- To conduct seminars, workshops, legal awareness programmes and sensitization activities on gender-related issues.
- To encourage students to challenge gender stereotypes and develop socially responsible attitudes.
- To promote leadership, confidence and active participation of students in institutional and community activities irrespective of gender.
- To support the implementation of policies relating to prevention of discrimination and sexual harassment in coordination with the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).
- To collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, legal professionals and experts for programmes on gender equity and women’s empowerment.
- To encourage research, discussions and community outreach on contemporary issues relating to gender, law and social justice.
- To contribute towards building a safe, inclusive and equitable campus environment consistent with the values enshrined in the Constitution of India and the University of Mumbai.
Functions of the Cell
The Gender Equity Cell shall:
- Organize awareness programmes, lectures, workshops and campaigns on gender equality and gender sensitization.
- Celebrate national and international observance days related to women’s rights and gender justice.
- Promote legal literacy relating to gender justice, workplace rights and constitutional safeguards.
- Encourage student participation in debates, poster competitions, street plays and other activities promoting gender equity.
- Coordinate with the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), NSS Unit and other committees on matters concerning gender sensitization.
- Assist the institution in conducting periodic Gender Audits and implementing gender-inclusive policies.
- Promote a campus culture that upholds dignity, safety, equality and respect for every individual
